“The Dix” as we named it was found by Dwight Boyd in a barn along with three other Ross cedar strips. According to family that owned the boats they had been there for 23 years. Dwight was asked to do an evaluation on them for an estate sale. He knew that I was looking for a cedar strip and called us. We of course bought it. It is a 1958 14’9″ cedar strip boat, with the original 35 hp electric start Big Twin on the back. This model is called a Champlain. As far as Dwight could find out and surmise the boat was completely original and had never had any work done to it except for being vanished. This boat won the “Most Original and Best Preserved Boat” at the 2003 Gravenhurst show. It also won the sponsors award for “Best Presented Boat” in 2005 also in Gravenhurst. Doug and Dixie Robbie.
